Veteran wide receiver Mohamed Sanu, who hit the practice field for the first time with his new team on Friday, will suit up and make his 49ers debut on Sunday against the New York Jets.

The 49ers will play short-handed on offense and defense without tight end George Kittle (knee), cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) and edge rusher Dee Ford (neck). Sherman will miss at least three games while on injured reserve.

The 49ers announced their inactive players for their Week 2 game.

Sanu, who will wear No. 14, joins a group of receivers that includes Kendrick Bourne, Dante Pettis, Trent Taylor and rookie Brandon Aiyuk.

Aiyuk, whom the 49ers selected with the No. 25 overall pick in the draft, did not play in the 49ers' season opener last week against the Arizona Cardinals due to a hamstring injury he sustained Aug. 23 during training camp.

Sanu officially signed with the 49ers on Friday after passing three days of COVID-19 testing at the team's practice facility in Santa Clara. Sanu, a nine-year pro, was released by the New England Patriots before the start of the regular season.

Defensive lineman Kentavius Street, a fourth-round pick in 2018, will see action in only his fourth NFL game. He sat out his entire rookie season after sustaining an ACL tear in a pre-draft workout. He had four tackles in three games last season before going back on IR with a knee injury.

Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. PT from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. N.J.
