49ers' Kyle Juszczyk will add more ‘unusual training' to offseason work

Folks have been forced to think outside the box to stay in shape during this era spent maintaining social distance amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. That includes the average and the super athletic, even pros who don’t have ideal access to workout space.

That’s why we saw 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk pulling a sled with his wife on it through the snow. Uphill both ways, as they used to say.

He also used a heavy tree branch for leg day and caught passes on the run with what looks like a sled, some rope and an associate weighing him down.

While “Rocky” workouts were fun, they were also necessary in the begging throes of this pandemic.

“Early in the offseason I moved into a new house in New York, so I was still getting my bearings in terms of where I would be training,” Juszczyk said. “I was fortunate that my wife’s family has a cabin in Upstate New York and while I was trying to figure things out and just get away from everything, I thought it was a great time to take advantage of some unusual training. That worked out perfectly.”

Juszczyk normally does some odd stuff during offseason training, and he might incorporate more of it after we all get back to normal.

“I like to do that type of stuff anyway in the offseason but not as much as I have this year,” Juszczyk said. “I’ve incorporated it just a bit more because it is harder to get into a gym or a standard facility. It is something I would do a little bit, I enjoyed it and I think it will help with my game. It’s always good to step out of box and do something you’re uncomfortable with that’s outside your typical routine. I think it’s really just going to help me out.”
