49ers LB Brooks expected back to play against Ravens

SANTA CLARA – Outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks remained away from the 49ers on Wednesday after the death of his sister. But he could be available for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

“Ahmad is not back, yet,” 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said Wednesday morning. “(I’ll) update you as that goes.”

Brooks is attending the funeral service on Wednesday of his older sister, Krsunthia Brooks-Childs, who died last week of lupus. The service was scheduled to take place in Angie, Louisiana. Brooks-Childs was 40.

She left the Washington area in 2013 to accept an assistant principal position in Covington, Louisiana. Brooks was very close to his sister, said Gregory R. Williams, Brooks’ agent.

Ahmad Brooks left the 49ers last week and remained with family in Louisiana following his sister’s death while the team played Sunday night against the New York Giants.

Brooks plans to return to the Bay Area in time to get in some preparation to play against the Ravens on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, Williams said.

“I know it’s his intention to play this week,” Williams said, “so I’m assuming he’ll be back pretty quickly,”
