The 49ers made George Kittle's record-setting contract extension official on Friday.
Kittle, 27, signed a five-year extension worth up to $75 million that will keep him with San Francisco through the 2025 NFL season. The contract includes $30 million guaranteed at signing and $40 million in total guarantees, making it the largest tight end contract in NFL history.

"We are thrilled to have reached an agreement with George to keep him in red and gold well into the future," general manager John Lynch said in a team statement. "George was part of our first draft class and represents as well as anyone the core values we covet in the players we build our team with. His talent and spirit are unique, his will and grit contagious and his production undeniable. We can't wait to see what the future holds for George and our team with him a part of it."
After setting the NFL single-season record for receiving yards (1,377) by a tight end in 2018, Kittle followed that up with another tremendous season in 2019 to cement his status as the top player at his position in the league. He hauled in 85 receptions for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns across 14 regular-season games and was a huge part of the 49ers' rushing attack in leading them to Super Bowl LIV.
"I love being a 49er and am blessed to have the opportunity to wear red and gold for years to come," Kittle said in a statement. "I can't wait to continue our quest to bring another Super Bowl back to The Bay."
Kittle recently was ranked the No. 7 overall player in the league by his peers, and was graded as the top overall player in the NFL last season by Pro Football Focus. He has the most receiving yards (2,945) and receptions (219) in NFL history within a tight end's first three seasons.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Kittle has proven to be a huge coup for San Francisco, and the extension can be viewed as a win-win for both sides.
The 49ers lock up their best player for the long term, while Kittle gets the compensation and security he deserves.
