CHARLOTTE, N.C. – San Francisco 49ers rookie guard Joshua Garnett will be in uniform and could make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

The 49ers opted to activate Garnett, chosen with the No. 28 overall pick in the draft, over fellow rookie John Theus, a fifth-round draft pick. Guard/center Marcus Martin is the other backup offensive lineman.

Backup tackle Anthony Davis did not make the trip to face the Panthers due to a concussion he sustained in Thursday’s practice. Starting left guard Zane Beadles will likely serve as the backup at the tackle positions, if the 49ers require a replacement for Joe Staley or Trent Brown.

Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey is set to make his return from a left knee injury sustained in November. Dorsey did not appear in the exhibition season and he was not active for the 49ers’ opener last week against the Los Angeles Rams.

Nickel back Chris Davis is active for the game after missing Week 1 with a hamstring injury. Starting cornerback Jimmie Ward moved to cover the slot receiver on passing downs against the Rams.

The 49ers announced no changes to their starting lineup for Sunday’s game.
