New 49er Jackson can't wait to learn from Bosa, Kocurek

SANTA CLARA -- New 49ers addition Drake Jackson hopes Nick Bosa is as excited as he is to head to Santa Clara and join the fray.

The USC product is only 21 years old and can’t wait to meet the club’s star pass rusher to soak up anything and everything he can. Jackson was overjoyed in his first video meeting with the local media, mostly about meeting Bosa.

“Man, I hope he’s [as] excited to be my teammate as I am,” Jackson said. “As soon as I get out there, I’m going to try to find him and get a handshake from him and then work out something. I’m trying to instantly get in there and start getting the knowledge and things that I need to grow and be a monster like him.

“He’s literally a gremlin on the side. He’s a monster. He puts fear into tackles' eyes, and I just want to be able to be the same way.”

Jackson shared that the call from the 49ers was like an out-of-body experience and a reward for what he had spent his whole life working for. The versatile lineman also knows that the journey is only just beginning as the next edge rusher for the club

49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek is known for his very vocal antics on the practice field, and Jackson can’t wait to be a part of it. The two met during one of his 30 formal interviews, and the young pass rusher knew it would be a match made in heaven if the team were to draft him.

“The D-line coach, his philosophy is lovely,” Jackson said. “It’s one of those philosophies that’s nasty. You got to be able to be nasty to take your reward, and I like that type of stuff. That’s really dog mentality so I can’t wait to get into it.”

“I love to play for a coach that is fired up like that and wants a lot out of his guys. It’s a challenge and I’m willing to take on that challenge. I can’t wait to get to it with a legendary coach like that.”

In his three seasons at USC, Jackson logged 103 total tackles, 57 solo and 25 for loss. The edge rusher also recorded one interception, forced two fumbles and recovered one. Jackson will reunite with fellow Trojan Talanoa Hufanga, who he looked up to as a freshman in college.

“I am young and I say that’s a benefit to me, because that’s more time that I got to learn and grow,” Jackson said. “People still say that this is a learning phase that I’m in, so right now I got a lot of knowledge I can take in from the D-line room and everyone in the league.

“This whole first year is like a learning process. I just want to take it all in and learn from it.”

With the addition of Jackson to the group, the 49ers defensive line is set to maintain it’s dominating style well into the future.
