Kicker Robbie Gould gained security Wednesday with a new two-year contract with the 49ers.
On the same day he received a fully guaranteed deal that ensures he remains as the 49ers’ kicker through the 2022 season, Gould was placed on the NFL’s reserve/COVID list.
The 49ers signed strong-legged kicker Tristan Vizcaino to handle the chores in the 49ers’ final regular-season game, coach Kyle Shanahan said. Vizcaino will take a spot on the practice squad and be elevated on Saturday in order to kick in the game.
Vizcaino has never kicked in an NFL regular-season game. He spent time earlier this season on the practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings.
Vizcaino, 24, saw action during the 2019 exhibition season with the Cincinnati Bengals. He made four of seven field-goal attempts, including a 57-yarder. His misses were from 37, 46 and 55 yards.
Vizcaino was the primary kicker for only one season during his four-year career at the University of Washington. As a senior in 2017, he made 48 of 51 extra points and 12 of 19 field-goal attempts. He averaged 40.7 yards on 51 punts as a junior.
The 49ers also placed long-snapper Taybor Pepper on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week. The 49ers signed Colin Holba to take over as the long-snapper for the Week 17 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
