The 49ers on Thursday placed running back Austin Walter on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
Walter is the second 49ers player in as many days to go on the list. On Wednesday, offensive lineman Colton McKivitz was placed on reserve/COVID-19.
The NFL created the designation for players who either test positive for COVID-19 or has been quarantined after being close contact with an infected individual.
The 49ers are conducting their third consecutive week of practices in Glendale, Arizona, after Santa Clara County banned contact sports as a measure to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Also, the 49ers lifted the roster exemption for defensive tackle Kevin Givens, whose absence was excused last week to attend the birth of his daughter.
The 49ers re-signed rookie tight end Chase Harrell to the practice squad, and placed wide receiver Shawn Poindexter on the practice squad injured list.
Walter has not been active for the 49ers' past two games, as the 49ers have gone with running backs Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon.
In three appearances this season, Walter has one catch for 27 yards and one rushing attempt for 3 yards. Walter is a first-year player from Rice.
