San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh on Friday completed his third interview for an NFL head-coaching vacancy this week

The Jets announced Saleh became the third candidate to interview for the job after the organization this week fired Adam Gase, who served two seasons with the organization.

Saleh joins Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis as official candidates for the Jets' opening. Bieniemy and Lewis interviewed earlier this week.

Saleh has been one of the NFL's most popular head-coaching candidates this offseason.

He interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons opening on Monday and for the Detroit Lions' job on Thursday. The Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers have also requested permission to speak with Saleh for their head-coaching jobs.

Saleh, 41, has been at the controls of a defense that has ranked among the best in the NFL the past two seasons. Despite injuries at every level of their defense, the 49ers ranked among the top five in the league in yards per game (314.3), passing yards per game (207.9), and third-down (35.5 percent).
