The 49ers made a transaction on Wednesday morning.

San Francisco signed linebacker Elijah Lee off the Vikings practice squad, the team announced.

To make room on the roster, the 49ers waived offensive lineman John Theus -- a fifth-round pick in 2016.

On Tuesday, the 49ers reportedly worked out linebackers Sean Spence and Donald Butler.

The Vikings selected Lee in the seventh round (232nd overall) in the 2017 draft.

Over three seasons at Kansas State, he racked up 209 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and five interceptions.

Starting linebacker Reuben Foster is dealing with a high ankle sprain sustained against the Panthers last Sunday.
