49ers sit out more than 30 players from preseason finale vs. Chargers

SANTA CLARA -- More than a third of the 49ers’ 90-man roster will sit out the team’s final preseason game.

Eight players are managing injury issues, while the remaining players held out of the game against the Los Angeles Chargersat Levi's Stadium were rested as a precaution. The 49ers open the regular season on Sept. 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 49ers must make 37 roster moves to reach the 53-man player limit by Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.
