The 49ers escaped MetLife Stadium with a 31-13 win over the New York Jets on Sunday, but it undoubtedly was a pyrrhic victory for coach Kyle Shanahan’s group.
Maybe they should've seen it coming, with a bad omen to start their East Coast road trip.
The team plane had a mechanical issue, per the FOX broadcast (h/t 49ers Webzone), forcing the 49ers' traveling party to take off from San Francisco instead of San Jose. They didn't land in New Jersey until nearly 2 a.m. local time Saturday.

The next day, four 49ers starters, including reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, went down with injuries. Shanahan said after the game that Bosa “most likely” tore his ACL, and Jimmy G was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

Things could have been worse, though, as a 0-2 record and a loss to the Jets would have left the Faithful even more fired up after such high expectations entering the season. But potentially losing players such as Bosa and Garoppolo for any additional time would be a major blow to the 49ers’ hopes of returning to the Super Bowl this season.
The 49ers will stay on the East Coast this week, with practice scheduled at The Greenbriar in West Virginia, before they return to MetLife for a Week 3 meeting with the New York Giants. By then, the 49ers hope the omens will have become a little friendlier to them.
