49ers' Trent Taylor offers to replace fan jerseys after changing number

Trent Taylor fans were a little miffed at the third-year receiver’s decision to change his jersey number from 81 to 15.

To ease the minds of his 49ers fans, Taylor announced on his Instagram how they can go about getting a replacement from him.

Fans who own Taylor’s No. 81 jersey simply need to take a photo of themselves wearing the jersey and post a picture on social media tagging Taylor and/or using the hashtag #Taylor15.

There were rumors that the number change was a result of Hall of Fame receiver Terrell Owens' number being retired. He will be inducted into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. Hall of Fame at the first home game of 2019.

Retiring the number does not appear to be in the immediate plans, however. Newly-signed receiver Jordan Matthews will likely don the No. 81.

Jed York recently mentioned at the NFL owners meeting that he is in favor of temporary retirement of numbers and honoring former players in other ways. He clarified that obviously Joe Montana’s No. 16 and Jerry Rice’s No. 80 are exceptions to that rule.

Pierre Garçon was the most recent player to wear the No. 15. The 49ers released the veteran receiver during the offseason.
