Agent confirms 49ers' Hurd suffered torn ACL in practice

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan alluded to a serious injury to wide receiver Jalen Hurd, and the player's agent confirmed the worst fears Monday.

The second-year wideout sustained a torn ACL during 49ers practice Sunday, agent Doug Hendrickson said during an interview with KNBR 680.

"It is a torn ACL, just a straight ACL," Hendrickson said (H/T 49ers Webzone). "Nothing more to it than that. Nothing else involved. Just a torn ACL."

According to Hendrickson, Hurd will have his ACL surgically repaired in a couple of weeks.

Shanahan spoke to the media Monday morning and said he would be surprised if Hurd didn't tear his ACL. Hurd was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday morning.

It's a tough break for Hurd, who missed all of his rookie season due to a stress fracture in his back. The 49ers were hoping that he would be a big part of Shanahan's offense this season. But now he will miss his second consecutive season.

“It’s a pretty unfortunate thing for him,” Shanahan told reporters Monday. “We know what he went through last year with his back. The guy’s worked as hard as anyone on our team to get back. For him to get hurt before he actually got to go out there, just a freak thing on air, cutting. Really feel bad for the guy, but he will be back next year.”

Now, Hurd and the 49ers will have to wait until his third year to see how he fits in Shanahan's scheme.
