49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon injured his foot during the second half of San Francisco’s Week 3 game Sunday afternoon against the Steelers and did not return. After the 49ers' 24-20 comeback win over Pittsburgh at Levi's Stadium, coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters there is no word yet on the severity of Witherspoon's injury.
Witherspoon was seen wearing a walking boot and will get an MRI on Monday. He doesn't believe the injury is serious.

After Verrett's unsuccessful debut, Emmanuel Moseley came in and registered one tackle. If Witherspoon misses significant time, the 49ers will count on Verrett, Moseley and the rest of the 49ers defensive backs to step up.
