Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith played in an NFL game for the first time since November of 2018, when he suffered a devastating, life-threatening leg injury.
Upon entering Sunday's game, the former 49ers' No. 1 overall draft pick got a heartwarming standing ovation from his family in the stands.
Smith underwent 17 surgeries after going down during a Washington game in Week 11 of the 2018 season. He suffered sepsis complications and has worked incredibly hard to get back to a place where he was healthy enough to play an NFL game.
After being drafted No. 1 overall to the 49ers in 2005, Smith played seven seasons with the team. He threw for over 14,000 passing yards with 81 touchdowns and 63 interceptions.
It's truly been an incredible comeback for Smith.
