The first step to keeping the band together is complete, and Richard Sherman couldn't be happier.

Arik Armstead and the 49ers agreed to terms on a new five-year contract, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco on Monday. The deal could be worth up to $85 million.

As the news was reported, KNBR's Sam Hustis caught Sherman reacting to Armstead staying with the 49ers while the Pro Bowl cornerback was playing "Call of Duty."

"What are my thoughts on the Armstead deal? I'm very excited about it," Sherman said. "Happy that he's staying with the Niners. Bang bang, Niner Gang. What up Niner Gang 2020, yeahmean."

The 49ers opted not to use the franchise tag on Armstead before Monday's deadline. He became an unrestricted free agent, but the two sides quickly came to a deal.

Armstead, the No. 17 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, had his breakout season last year. The Sacramento native led the 49ers with 10 sacks in the regular season, while adding 18 QB hits, 11 tackles for loss, two passes defensed and two forced fumbles.

He had two more sacks and four QB hits in the playoffs as well.

Sherman, who turns 32 years old at the end of the month, is going into the final season of his three-year contract with the 49ers.
