Bears' Nagy tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of 49ers game

Matt Nagy

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy announced Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Bears (3-4) are set to host the 2-4 49ers on Sunday at Soldier Field.

Nagy will work remotely while special teams coordinator Chris Tabor handles the in-person head coaching duties.

Nagy is fully vaccinated and said he is feeling good. Since he is fully vaccinated, Nagy will need two negative tests at least 24 hours apart to return.

The Bears currently have four players who are on the COVID list as well.

With the Bears' COVID issues worsening, NFL Media's Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the Bears will now require everyone to wear a mask and get a daily test regardless of vaccination status.

The Bears are coming off a 38-3 loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as rookie quarterback Justin Fields turned the ball over five times.

San Francisco, meanwhile, was sloppy in a 30-18 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The 49ers now have lost four straight games and are in search of their identity.
