Aiyuk now has more TDs than Deebo did as a 49ers rookie WR

Deebo Samuel proved to be an extremely smart draft pick by the 49ers in the second round last year. Fellow receiver Brandon Aiyuk might have been an even more genius selection by San Francisco in 2020.

Aiyuk took a 2-yard shovel pass on fourth-and-goal Sunday and found his way into the end zone with ease to close the gap with the Dallas Cowboys. The touchdown made the score 17-13 in favor of the Cowboys with five minutes left in the first half.

It also gave Aiyuk his seventh touchdown on the season, surpassing Samuel's total of six from a season ago.

Both receivers perfectly fit Kyle Shanahan's offense. Samuel scored three touchdowns as a receiver in the regular season and three on the ground last year. Aiyuk now has five through the air and two as a ball-carrier in 11 games.

Aiyuk's latest milestone comes one week after the best game of his young career where he hauled in 10 catches for 119 yards against the Washington Football Team. He came into Sunday with 50 receptions on the year. Samuel owns the franchise rookie record with 57 receptions in the regular season.

It almost seems inevitable the Aiyuk will break his teammate's record. He also entered Sunday just 268 yards shy of breaking Jerry Rice's rookie record for receiving yards. The 49ers traded up in the first round this year to draft Aiyuk with the No. 25 overall pick, and he and Samuel should be a dangerous duo for years to come.
