Josh Shaw hasn't seen the field this season for the Arizona Cardinals due to an injury, and now he'll be out of football until at least 2021.
The NFL announced Friday that the 27-year-old defensive back has been suspended through the 2020 season after it was discovered he had gambled on games. The NFL's investigation found no evidence Shaw used inside information or that any game was impacted by his wagers. The league also did not find that any players or coaches were aware of the infraction.
"The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league. At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football."

Shaw is allowed to appeal the suspension and can apply for reinstatement on Feb. 15, 2021.
The USC product was drafted by the Bengals in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. There were character concerns about him coming out of SC, mainly stemming from an incident in which Shaw lied when he claimed he suffered an injury saving his nephew from drowning in a pool.
He played three seasons in Cincinnati before being released prior to the 2018 season. He split his time with the Chiefs and Bucs in 2018 and signed with the Cardinals in February. He was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury Aug. 25.

San Francisco 49ers
The Cardinals currently are in Phase 1 of a rebuild around rookie sensation Kyler Murray and new coach Kliff Kingsbury. They have been better than their 3-7-1 record would indicate and took the 49ers to the wire in both games they played this season. Murray has been as advertised but the defense still needs a lot of work.
It sounds like Shaw won't be around to be a part of the rebuild, as the Cardinals try to build a team that can rival the 49ers atop the NFC West.
