Report: Jets feel 49ers won't trade Deebo without ‘king's ransom'

The wildest offseason in recent NFL history continues, and this time, it hits close to home for 49ers fans.

That's because 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington that he has requested a trade from San Francisco. The news took the NFL world by storm when it broke Wednesday morning.

And it didn’t take long for speculation about possible trade destinations to circulate.

One possible suitor -- the New York Jets -- doesn’t believe Samuel will be moved at all, unless the 49ers receive a “king’s ransom” in return, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported, citing a league source.

Samuel showcased his unique talent in his breakout 2021 season with the 49ers, and multiple teams likely will show some level of interest in the star wide receiver.

The Jets make sense for Samuel, who would join familiar faces in former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, now New York's head coach, and ex-49ers assistant Mike LaFleur, now Gang Green's offensive coordinator. The Kansas City Chiefs also would be an ideal landing spot for the do-it-all playmaker after they traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins last month.

But can those teams offer what San Francisco would seek for Samuel? And while he's entering the last year of his rookie contract and wants to be paid top dollar, a trade isn't guaranteed. In fact, San Francisco doesn’t have to honor Samuel’s request because the 49ers have him under contract for this year, and can franchise tag him next year.

Buckle up. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
