Fantasy football waiver wire: Trent Taylor a solid Week 6 option

Share

The fantasy football season marched onwards Sunday, and the usual suspects again led the way. Players such as James Conner and Odell Beckham, Jr. are owned in the vast majority of leagues, making it very hard to find value at the flex positions.

But that's where we come in.

Here's who you should target ahead of Week 6, with each player owned in fewer than 60 percent of ESPN and Yahoo leagues. We start with our first repeat performer of the season.

Nyheim Hines, Indianapolis Colts RB (47 percent owned in ESPN leagues, 59 percent in Yahoo leagues)

Hines saw a sizable bump in ownership after a strong performance (and our recommendation) in Week 4, and he followed that with an impressive Week 5. He rushed for 45 yards and added 45 more yards on seven catches, finishing third on the team in receptions and tied for third in targets (nine).

The 21-year-old will have a favorable matchup next week, too. The New York Jets, Indianapolis' opponent next week, gave up 95 receiving yards to the Broncos last week.

We have a feeling Hines won't be available in too many more leagues after Week 6, so be sure to heed our advice this week.

Mike Davis, Seattle Seahawks RB (14.7 percent owned in ESPN leagues, 19 percent in Yahoo leagues)

Even though his total touches dropped from 25 to 14,  Davis still had a big role in the Seattle offense. He rushed 12 times for 68 yards and one touchdown, and caught two passes for seven yards. The TD was his third in two weeks.

Despite Chris Carson's return to the Seahawks' backfield, Davis still had more total red-zone touches than Carson. Since Seattle had just a couple trips inside the 20, Davis' continued usage is worth monitoring, But with double-digit performances in back-to-back weeks, you should try to do that with him on your roster.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Green Bay Packers WR (2.2 percent owned in ESPN leagues, 9 percent in Yahoo leagues)

Absence created opportunity for Valdes-Scantling, and the the 23-year-old hauled in seven catches for 68 yards and one touchdown against the Detroit Lions. With Randall Cobb (hamstring) and Geronimo Allison (concussion, hamstring) out of the Green Bay lineup, Valdes-Scantling was Aaron Rodgers' third-most targeted receiver (10) behind tight end Jimmy Graham (11) and Davante Adams (12).

The Packers will have a long week before playing against the 49ers on Monday Night Football, so Allison and Cobb could return. Valdes-Scantling is solid insurance in case they don't, and especially since wide receivers such as Kenny Golladay and Michael Thomas will be on bye weeks. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he'll go up against a 49ers secondary that gave up a 75-yard touchdown reception in Week 5.

Trent Taylor, San Francisco 49ers WR (0.9 percent owned in ESPN leagues, 0 percent in Yahoo leagues)

Taylor caught two fewer passes (seven) than he had in his previous three games combined. His 61 receiving yards also were more than he had in the first three games, and he caught his first TD pass since Dec. 24, 2017.

Those numbers wouldn't necessarily indicate a lot of confidence, but 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard was content to throw underneath in the absence of Marquise Goodwin (hamstring, quad) and Dante Pettis (knee). He targeted Taylor, fullback Kyle Juszczyk and tight end George Kittle on 22 of his 54 pass attempts.

As long as the 49ers are banged up at wide receiver, Taylor is worth a stash on your bench.
