The file on Brandon Lloyd
Brandon Lloyd attended the University of Illinois, where he played for the Fighting Illini football team. The Kansas City, Missouri product suffered a setback following a season where he caught 30 passes for 511 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman. Lloyd broke his left femur and missed the entire 2000 season.
Lloyd quickly bounced back and had breakout seasons for the Fighting Illini in 2001 and 2002. He helped his team to a 10-2 record and a Sugar Bowl appearance after his sophomore season. In addition, he was recognized as a first-team All-Big Ten player and finished fourth in the conference with 1,006 receiving yards.
2003 NFL Draft
Lloyd was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round (124th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot, 192-pound wide receiver grabbed just 14 receptions as a rookie, and scored a total of 13 touchdowns in his first three seasons with the 49ers. San Francisco traded Lloyd to the Washington Redskins for a third round pick (84th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft.
Lloyd struggled with the Redskins. He played in only eight games and had just two receptions for 14 yards in 2007.
Lloyd signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears on March 8, 2008. He ended the season with 26 receptions for 364 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games.
Lloyd resurrected his career with the Denver Broncos. He signed with the team on June 15, 2009 and reunited with quarterback Kyle Orton, whom he had played previously with in Chicago. Lloyd made the Pro Bowl and led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,448 in 2010 as a member of the Broncos.
Lloyd was traded for the second time in his career when the St. Louis Rams acquired the wide receiver for a 2012 5th round pick (167th overall). At the end of the 2012 season, Lloyd became a free agent. He signed a three-year, $12 million contract with the New England Patriots. After playing for five different teams and missing the entire 2013-2014 season, he returned to the team that drafted him out of college. At the age of 33, Lloyd agreed on a one-year contract with the 49ers.
