Joshua Garnett was born in Auburn, Washington. It was in Washington where he attended Puyallup High School, becoming a three-time all-state lineman. In 2011, Garnett was named the South Puget Sound Lineman of the Year. He also participated in the under Armour All-America Game. A four-star recruit by Yahoo! Rivals, he committed to Stanford University.
Garnett as a true freshman appeared in 14 games for the Cardinal. He played with players such as Andrus Peat, a first-round pick by the New Orleans Saints, and David Yankey, a fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings. David DeCastro was also a first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2012.
Into the spotlight
Garnett saw action in 2014 and 2015 for the Cardinal. He emerged as a senior, becoming an All-American and winning the Outland Trophy, given to the nation's top interior offensive lineman. He lists at 6-foot-4, 312 pounds with 33 7/8 inch arms.
After San Francisco traded back into the first round with the Kansas City Chiefs, Joshua Garnett was selected by the 49ers with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
