Five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Wes Welker reportedly joining 49ers staff

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Wes Welker is reportedly joining the 49ers coaching staff.

Welker, 37,  spent the past two seasons as an offense of assistant with the Houston Texans. The Houston Chronicle reported Welker has accepted a position with the 49ers.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said at the Super Bowl he expected to finalize his coaching staff this week. Welker will likely join passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur in working with 49ers wide receivers.

Welker played 12 NFL seasons and earned five Pro Bowls and two All-Pro selections. 

He spent six seasons with the New England Patriots. He also played for Miami, Denver and the St. Louis Rams.

Welker, known for his play in the slot, appeared in 175 career games. He caught 903 passes for 9,924 yards and 50 touchdowns in his career.
