Ford leaves 49ers practice after single 1-on-1 drill rep

SANTA CLARA — After one rep of one-on-ones at Sunday’s practice, Dee Ford called it a day.

The edge rusher faced off once with Mike McGlinchey, won the rep, and seemed to pull up lame. Trainers worked on his right lower leg for a while but after testing it out by jogging on the turf, they decided it was best for him to sit out the remainder of the practice.

Ford, who brings indelible speed to the defensive line, battled knee and hamstring injuries throughout his first season with the 49ers. He admitted a few weeks ago that that he never fully felt like himself throughout the 2019 season.

After an offseason procedure, the Pro Bowl defender had described his health at 100-percent. McGlinchey said he had noticed Ford’s “pop” was like he had seen before: a “shot out of a cannon.”

The team has not released any details about Ford’s injury but a good sign is that he remained on the sidelines watching practice alongside his teammates. Players have a day off Monday before returning to practice on Tuesday.
