Battle in the Motor City
The 49ers (4-10) and Lions (5-9) went head-to-head at Ford Field in Week 16. Who would emerge victorious?
Jarryd Hayne, who was promoted to the active roster on Saturday, started the game for the 49ers at running back.
Finding the end zone
The 49ers engineered a solid drive on their first possession, which was capped off by a Blaine Gabbert touchdown to tight end Vance McDonald. San Francisco claimed an early 7-0 lead.
Making a play
Dontae Johnson got the start at cornerback and did a solid job covering Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, making this pass breakup on a throw to the end zone.
Taking the lead
Matthew Stafford chucked one downfield to give the Lions a 10-7 lead over the 49ers.
Re-taking the lead
Blaine Gabbert found Torrey Smith for a touchdown, making it Gabbert's second touchdown throw of the first half. The score gave the 49ers a 14-10 lead.
Lions back on top
Joique Bell punched in the score from one yard out, giving the Lions a 17-14 lead. Field goals from both teams followed, as Phil Dawson and Matt Prater each hit from 35-plus yards out. The score going into the half was 20-17 Lions over 49ers.
Knocking 'em down
Adding onto Calvin Johnson's fourth-quarter TD, Matt Prater hit two more second-half field goals, pushing the Lions' score to 32. With the 49ers failing to score a point in the second half, Detroit would beat San Francisco 32-17.
