Garcia: Garoppolo has the ‘making of that type of player' for special honor

The 49ers have not had a Pro Bowl quarterback for a decade-and-a-half.

Jeff Garcia was selected to the All-Star Game in three consecutive seasons (2000-’02). He was asked on The 49ers Insider Podcast whether the 49ers might now have a future Pro Bowl player in Jimmy Garoppolo.

“With the way he played, this kid is the making of that type of player,” Garcia said. “It has to be showcased now on a weekly basis. We’ll know a lot more when he goes to Houston against what has been a really good defensive football team and to see how he performs with that kind of stress and duress with pressure coming at him.

“Those types of throws that he made are key to really, truly understanding the type of player they have under their belt who is still young, who is still growing, who is still maturing, who is still learning. But the upside is so great.”
