Kittle feels better, status for 49ers-Giants remains unsure

All-Pro tight end George Kittle went through his second limited practice in a row after remaining back in the Bay Area for the 49ers’ Week 2 win over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Does his decision to make himself available for a video call with Bay Area reporters on Thursday signal that he expects to play Sunday against the New York Giants?

Perhaps.

Kittle said he missed hearing the voices and seeing the faces of the local media. That's why he appeared for a session with the media, he quipped.

He did not provide many other clues about his availability after missing last week’s game with a knee sprain.

“Last two days have gone well,” Kittle said. “Just feel better every single day, so that’s awesome. Just being able to go out there and play football again a little bit is great.”

Six 49ers sustained lower leg injuries in the game against the Jets. Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas are out for the season with ACL injuries. Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) and running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman will not play.

The 49ers complained about the artificial surface at MetLife Stadium – the same place the team will play in Week 3. Kittle said he is unsure if concerns about the field will have any influence on whether he will play in the upcoming game.

“I wasn’t at the Jets game, so I didn’t get to feel the field,” Kittle said. “So I really don’t know about it. I know we were unlucky with some injuries and stuff.

"But it’s a turf field, and it is what it is, and I got to go play football. So I’m not really concerned because I haven’t played on it, yet.”

Kittle rehabbed at the 49ers’ team facility in Santa Clara while the 49ers played. And after seeing the rash of injuries early in the game, he said he could not take it anymore.

“I watched the first quarter and I saw two injuries, and I went outside and did my workout,” Kittle said. “I just thought I was bad luck watching the game on TV.”

Kittle joined his teammates after the game at the West Virginia resort at which they are staying and practicing this week to remain in the Eastern time zone.

“Watching the Niners play on TV is not really fun when I should be out on the field with them,” Kittle said. “So I’m looking forward to the next time I have the opportunity to play again. Whenever that is, I can’t wait.”
