Mike McDaniel's promotion to 49ers offensive coordinator already has two of the 49ers' top skill players from last season excited.
McDaniel replaces Mike LaFleur, who's joining former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh's staff with the New York Jets as offensive coordinator.
The 37-year-old McDaniel served as the 49ers' run-game coordinator last season, and has worked with the organization since Kyle Shanahan took over as head coach in 2017.
With Saleh's departure, inside linebackers coach DeMeco Ryans was promoted to defensive coordinator, which 49ers star linebacker Fred Warner seemed to be thrilled about on Twitter.
Ryans also joined the 49ers in 2017, beginning his coaching career in the Bay Area as a defensive quality control coach.
The 49ers fell short of the sky-high expectations set for 2020 after a run to the Super Bowl, as injuries plagued the roster at just about every position.
McDaniel and Ryans will have their work cut out for them in a fiercely competitive NFC West, but clearly they've already got the respect of the 49ers' locker room.
