George Kittle and Jimmy Garoppolo enjoyed themselves from the sidelines Sunday during the 49ers' win over the New York Giants. And to no surprise, Kittle found a way to make fun of his quarterback after the Week 3 victory.
Kittle has a long history of poking fun of Garoppolo on Twitter, with the media or with funny pictures of the 49ers QB on his shirt. The two usually are connecting for passes, but on Sunday, they had to watch from the sidelines.
The QB and star tight end played the role of spectator and cheering teammates as the 49ers dominated the Giants on the road, 36-9. Kittle missed his second straight week after the tight end sprained his knee in San Francisco's Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Garoppolo sustained a high ankle sprain in the 49ers' Week 2 win over the New York Jets and didn't play in the second half of that game.
Nick Mullens stepped in admirably for Garoppolo, completing 25 of 36 pass attempts for 343 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He had a 108.9 passer rating.
After hauling in two touchdowns against the Jets, Jordan Reed was expected to step in once again for Kittle but the oft-injured tight end left early Sunday with knee and ankle injuries. He had two catches for 23 yards. Backup Ross Dwelley finished with four receptions for 49 yards.
Both Garoppolo and Kittle could be back on the field this Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
