Stars all around the NFL went down with injuries Sunday. That included New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, whom the 49ers were scheduled to face in Week 3.

The Giants confirmed Monday morning that Barkley tore his ACL and is out for the remainder of the season.

Barkley had four carries for 28 yards before being carted off the field, and he still led the Giants in rushing yards despite the injury. Quarterback Daniel Jones ran for 21 yards on three carries, and backup running back Dion Lewis finished with just 20 yards on 10 carries.

Barkley was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2018, when he had 1,307 rushing yards, 721 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns. He had 1,003 rushing yards and 438 receiving yards over 13 games last season. Those stats show the Giants are a completely different offense without the No. 2 overall pick from the 2018 NFL Draft on the field.

The 49ers' upcoming meeting with the Giants figures to be a matchup of injury-filled rosters. The 49ers also fear star edge rusher Nick Bosa tore his ACL in San Francisco's 31-13 win over the New York Jets on Sunday. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a high ankle sprain Sunday, and backup Nick Mullens likely will start next week.

Defensive lineman Solomon Thomas and running back Raheem Mostert also exited Sunday's game with knee injuries. Thomas might be dealing with an ACL tear, too, but Mostert's injury seems less serious.

Cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) and wide receiver Deebo Samuel (foot) remain on injured reserve, and tight end George Kittle (knee) and pass rusher Dee Ford (neck) both hope to play against the Giants after missing the game against the Jets with injuries.
