The 49ers on Tuesday signed running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to a one-year contract, the club announced.
Wilson, a three-year NFL veteran, was scheduled to be a restricted free agent in mid-March.
The 25-year-old, who came to the 49ers in 2018 as an undrafted rookie from North Texas, led the club this season with 600 yards and seven touchdowns on 126 rushing attempts. He also had 13 receptions for 133 yards and three touchdowns.
Wilson became the fourth different player to lead the 49ers in rushing the past four seasons, joining Raheem Mostert (772 yards in 2019), Matt Breida (814 yards in 2018) and Carlos Hyde (938 yards in 2017).
The 49ers are in position to feature Mostert and Wilson as the team's top two running backs next season. Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon are not under contract and do not figure to return.
JaMycal Hasty, who appeared in eight games in his rookie season, also figures to be back with the club. Hasty had 39 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown.
