Ward gives hilarious NSFW answer on his Lance relationship

As Week 1 of the 49ers’ organized team activities is officially underway, team bonding is in full effect.

Typically, teammates will grab a bite together, others may catch a movie or enjoy a concert together.

But for 49ers safety Jimmie Ward and second-year quarterback Trey Lance, they bond in a much different way.

“Oh, we just talk s--t to each other every day, or every other day,” Ward told reporters on Tuesday. “I tell him like, ‘Hey, you’re not going to be able to throw this ball over me’ or ‘You’re not going to be able to fit this in, it’s a wrap, you gotta look somewhere else. I’m going to lean to your X, Y receiver, I’m going to force you to throw backside and you’re going to have to read your defense.’

“Or he’ll tell me, ‘Hey, I’m going deep today. I’m throwing the ball deep and I don’t care if you’re back there or not. If I get the read I’m going to throw it.’ So just like, you know, friendly competition like that, but we know we’re getting each other better.”

Hey, whatever works, right?

Lance has already earned himself plenty of praise from his teammates ahead of the 2022 season.

And even Ward is impressed with the progress the young signal-caller has made, and just like his teammates, is excited about what’s to come for Lance.

“Two days of OTAs, he’s made some good throws,” Ward said. “He just fit one in on me today, coach Kyle [Shanahan], he has some smart routes, he has some smart schemes and Trey has a strong arm so he’s going to zip the ball in if you give him any space and he trusts it, he’s going to zip it in. I like where he’s at right now.”
