Status of Jimmy G, Kittle unaffected by 49ers' Cowboys loss

The 49ers’ 41-33 Week 15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys won't change how the 49ers treat Jimmy Garoppolo or George Kittle in the final two games of the regular season, coach Kyle Shanahan said on Sunday.

Sunday's loss in Dallas nearly closes the door on the possibility of a playoff appearance for the 49ers following a season where they represented the NFC in Super Bowl LIV. Previously, Shanahan hinted that it would take a postseason berth to solidify a return for his injured star players.

Earlier in the week, Shanahan indicated that bringing anyone back would only be if there was no risk of any long-term impact on their health. If it looks like Kittle or Garoppolo’s return would benefit both the player and the team, he would give it the green light.

Kittle and Garoppolo only have been on the field together in five games over the course of the 2020 season. In those games, the 49ers have a 2-3 record.

There still is no doubt that having both playmakers back in the lineup would give the 49ers a better chance to end the season on a more positive note.
