HOUSTON – Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looked regular-season ready on Saturday night in the 49ers’ second exhibition game.

The only blemish on Garoppolo’s night was his final pass, which sailed high and was intercepted. But prior to that, Garoppolo completed 10 of 11 passes, including all seven of his third- or fourth-down attempts against the Houston Texans.

The game capped a six-day road trip for the 49ers. The club arrived in Houston on Monday night, then took part in joint practices with the Texans on Wednesday and Thursday.

Houston’s defense generally got the better of the 49ers on the practice field. But Garoppolo had plenty of time to operate with Houston’s stalwart pass-rushers J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney being held out of action.

Garoppolo played two series and the 49ers picked up seven first downs with the first-team offense on the field. The 49ers scored on the team’s first drive of the game, as Garoppolo found slot receiver Trent Taylor along the back line of the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown toss.

Garoppolo finished with 136 yards passing on 10-of-12 attempts. His night ended when he threw high to rookie receiver Dante Pettis. The ball glanced off his hands and was intercepted by Texans cornerback Johnson Bademosi.

Garoppolo and Marquise Goodwin carried over their connection on the deep ball into the game Saturday. On the first third-down of the game, Garoppolo hit Goodwin with a strike for a 40-yard completion.

The game was stopped for several minutes as Texans cornerback Kevin Johnson received attention on the field after sustaining a concussion.

Backup 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard entered in the second quarter and completed 6 of 10 attempts for 61 yards in the first half. The game was tied 7-7 at halftime, and the 49ers ultimately lost 16-13.
