Jimmy Garoppolo shows two-way skill in high-school basketball footage

Jimmy Garoppolo's ability to complete deep throws is up for debate, but you can't deny the 49ers quarterback's skill from beyond the arc.

Well, at least based on about 30 seconds of footage from one basketball game he played in high school.

A Brazil-based Garoppolo fan page on Instagram posted a video Wednesday (H/T The Athletic's David Lombardi) of Garoppolo playing basketball for Rolling Meadows High School. The footage is timestamped for Dec. 27, 2008, and shows him blocking a shot from behind and draining a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer on a subsequent possession.

NBC Sports' Chris Simms praised Garoppolo's quick release in explaining why he ranked Garoppolo No. 20 among NFL quarterbacks, and it certainly translated to the high-school hardwood ... at least in this clip.

Basketball hasn't been very far from the QB's mind -- or feet -- over the last couple of seasons. Garoppolo signed an endorsement deal with Jordan brand two years ago, and he was the only starting signal-caller to bear the "Jumpman" on his feet at the beginning of last season. Dwayne Haskins joined Garoppolo after taking Washington's top spot under center last season.

"Ever since I was a little kid, he's been my favorite athlete," Garoppolo said of Jordan in 2018. "It's pretty cool to be part of his brand now."

While his high-school game probably isn't what sold the powers-that-be at Jordan on bringing Garoppolo into the fold, it'd be a major missed opportunity to not ask His Airness for some hoops advice. Garoppolo might want to steer clear of a scouting report, though.
