Jimmy Garoppolo is out for revenge.
The 49ers quarterback fell minutes short of being the hero in Super LIV when San Francisco lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead of being the face of the league, players and coaches spent the offseason defending Garoppolo.
But Garoppolo certainly is ready to roll Sunday in the 49ers' season opener at Levi's Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals. On Saturday, he posted a hype video to Jack Harlow's "What's Poppin" with the caption "It's been a long time comin." And while 49ers fans aren't allowed in the stadium, they'll be on the edge of their seats watching from home.
Garoppolo, of course, will have the spotlight on him, but so will the new man protecting him. Seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams is taking over for the retired Joe Staley, and Williams can't wait for his first 49ers game.
Sunday will be Williams' first NFL game since Dec. 30, 2018, after sitting out last season in Washington.
"I'm excited to put the pads on," Williams said in a video he tweeted Saturday. "That's football. That's when you know it's real." He also said it "feels like Christmas" and Garoppolo obviously is lucky to have someone as talented as Williams in protecting him from Chandler Jones and the rest of the Cardinals' defensive line.
Garoppolo and Williams will be two of the 49ers' keys to victory as they look to get on the winning track to start off the 2020 season.
