NFL owners voted Levi’s Stadium to host Super Bowl L in 2016. The other finalist was Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Levi’s Stadium will house 49 solar panels (clever). During the regular season the stadium will rely solely on the sun for power.
Death toll at stadium
While working on the elevator shaft at Levi’s Stadium Donald White was crushed to death on June 11. The second death occurred on Oct. 14 when a load of rebar fell on top of Edward Erving Lake Jr.

The new stadium’s 13,600 square foot scoreboard towers over Candlesticks’ 1,296 square foot board.
The cost to build Levi’s Stadium comes with a $1.2 billion price tag. Compared to the $32 million it cost to build Candlestick Park in 1960.
The new 49ers stadium will have a total seating capacity of 68,500 and 9,000 club seats.
The San Francisco 49ers stadium is expected to be completed in time for the 2014 NFL season. Levi’s Stadium will also host college football’s Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
Long way from home
The new Levi’s stadium in Santa Clara is located 38.3 miles away from San Francisco. No other team in the NFL plays farther from their home city than the San Francisco 49ers.
State of the art
Levi's stadium is the first pro football stadium in California since the 1960s.
Levi's stadium, the first new stadium for the 49ers in franchise history, will have modern amenities including: 1,162 solar panels, recycled water in toilets and irrigation, and a 27,000-square-foot rooftop garden with low-water plants.
The 49ers held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 17, 2014 to officially unveil their new home -- Levi's stadium. The sports arena took approximately 27 months to build.
