Lynch on Garoppolo extension: 'Makes too much sense for it not to happen'

The 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have common interests in working out a multi-year contract extension, according to general manager John Lynch.

Lynch spoke with the NFL Network on Wednesday from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. He said the 49ers are working on getting Garoppolo signed to a new contract. He is scheduled for unrestricted free agency, but if Garoppolo remains unsigned in early March, the 49ers will designated him as their franchise player.

“He was a great addition to our team – kind of a game-changer,” Lynch said. “When you find the right guy at that position, it’s really good for your franchise. We believe we found the right guy.

“Now the challenge is getting Jimmy signed. We’re working hard toward that. We’ll see. I think he wants to be with us, and we want him there. It makes too much sense for it not to happen. It’s just a matter of getting it done.”

Garoppolo arrived with the 49ers on Oct. 31 in a trade with the New England Patriots for a second-round draft pick. The 49ers won each of his five starts to finish the season.

49ers-Seahawks injury report: Jaquiski Tartt out for second consecutive game

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers will face the Seattle Seahawks without safety Jaquiski Tartt, who will sit out for the second week in a row.

This will be the sixth game that Tartt has missed over the course of the season while dealing with a re-occurring shoulder injury. Marcell Harris and Antone Exum Jr. will reprise their roles at the safety positions as a result.

Harris had a much improved performance in the team’s win over the Broncos, exemplifying the learning curve that was expected by coach Robert Saleh.

Wide receivers Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis are questionable, which is a better sign than being downgraded, after being limited in practice this week. Expect to still see Kendrick Bourne in the lineup frequently, as well as tight end George Kittle working in as a receiving weapon.

Running back Matt Breida also is questionable, but with solid performances by rookie Jeff Wilson over the last few weeks, there is less pressure to get him onto the field. His snap counts could be limited.

Good news for the offense is that all offensive linemen are off the injury report. That could help their ability to work against a Seahawks front seven that held the 49ers to 66 yards on the ground in their first matchup.

49ers vs. Seahawks live stream: How to watch NFL Week 15 game online

With the season winding down, Richard Sherman will get one more shot at revenge in Week 15.

The San Francisco 49ers cornerback will square off against his old team, the Seattle Seahawks, on Sunday at Levi's Stadium. Sherman first squared off against his former club in Week 13, but neither he nor the 49ers would be happy with the result: a 43-16 loss in the Pacific Northwest.

The Seahawks are red-hot, and will bring a four-game winning streak to Santa Clara. Seattle shut down the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, and currently hold the NFC's final Wild Card spot.

Can the 49ers clinch their first winning streak of the season, and once again throw a wrench into the playoff picture? Or, will Sherman's former teammates prove to be too much?

Here's how you can stream 49ers-Seahawks live online.
