SANTA CLARA -- Marquise Goodwin and Kendrick Bourne were “honored” by NASA engineers mimicking their celebratory handshake.

Both 49ers wide receivers are known for their elaborate dance moves and celebrations, and they regularly test them out during pregame warmups. They have a very elaborate handshake that was seen back in Week 3 after a Goodwin scored a touchdown against the Chiefs.

That particular celebratory handshake received the unique honor of being copied Monday after a successful landing of NASA’s InSight on Mars, and the 49ers, Goodwin and Bourne noticed.

Bourne told NBC Sports Bay Area how the elaborate move started.

“It started out as a handshake with a move or two after,” Bourne said. “We kept adding dance moves after the shake, and that’s what we came up with. They went more than six weeks back to find that. That’s awesome!”

According to CNN, NASA engineers Brooke, who is a Chiefs fans. and Gene, a Patriots fan, reportedly practiced the moves for weeks. They somehow fit it in while also planning the very important task of making sure InSight landed safely on the surface of Mars.

The significance of what the handshake was celebrating wasn't lost on Bourne.

“It’s dope that it was the touchdown on Mars,” Bourne said. “It’s unbelievable. And they made us a part of that history!”

Goodwin is no stranger to his dance moves receiving a lot of attention. HIs pregame dance with Odell Beckham Jr. went viral before their Week 10 matchup.
