NFL Draft 2020: 49ers' remaining picks after Trent Williams trade

Patience is a virtue, and 49ers fans have needed plenty of it.

After making two selections in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night -- initially trading back one spot to select South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw at No. 14 overall, and then trading up from 31 to 25 to snag Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk -- San Francisco's picks have been few and far between.

The 49ers entered the draft without any picks in the second through fourth rounds, though they temporarily gained a fourth-round selection -- No. 117 overall -- in the trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in moving back to 14. However, they had to include it in the trade package to move up for Aiyuk.

San Francisco then further depleted its draft pick supply Saturday by trading a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round selection to Washington for offensive tackle Trent Williams. Soon thereafter, the 49ers recouped a fifth-round pick by trading running back Matt Breida to the Miami Dolphins, and used it to select West Virginia offensive lineman Colton McKivitz.

General manager John Lynch wasn't done wheeling and dealing. The 49ers also traded receiver Marquise Goodwin to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, in what amounted to a salary dump and swap of the teams' sixth-round picks. They then used that sixth-rounder -- which was 20 spots higher -- to select Georgia tight end Charlie Woerner.

San Francisco currently has one remaining pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which lands at No. 217 overall, the third pick of the seventh round.

It appears the 49ers are placing a priority on quality over quantity, and frankly, that makes plenty of sense. They were mere minutes away from winning Super Bowl LIV, and there simply aren't many holes on the roster.
