NFL Draft 2020: What Jerry Rice thinks 49ers should do at No. 13 pick

The 49ers are in a position to add at least one elite talent in the 2020 NFL Draft.

With the Nos. 13 and 31 picks in the first round, the 49ers should have the opportunity to add either a dynamic wide receiver or perhaps a game-changing defensive tackle depending on how the board shakes out. There have been some talk about the 49ers potentially trading both first-round picks in order to acquire much-needed draft capital.

But if they stand pat at No. 13, Jerry Rice knows that they need to do if the board falls in their favor.

"Now I don't know if John Lynch is going to maybe make some trades," Rice said Wednesday on a Facebook Live AMA with 95.7 The Game. "Because the second through the fourth rounds, we don't have any picks. We wouldn't be able to pick until the fifth round. But if there's a receiver like a CeeDee Lamb, or Jerry Jeudy or Henry Ruggs, you gotta take one of those guys. We need a receiver who can really stretch the field, make catches. We got George Kittle, Kendrick Bourne, Deebo Samuel -- all of those guys. There's talks about [Marquise] Goodwin being traded and all of that.

"We need someone that can come in and really impact the team right now. They are going to have to come in -- because this is our opportunity right now and I think that's the way John Lynch is looking at it. But if any of those receivers are there, I think they gotta go for it."

Lamb, Ruggs and Jeudy are the creams of an elite crop of wide receivers. Lamb is a monster with the ball in his hands, Ruggs has home-run speed and Jeudy is the most-polished route-runner to come out of college in years.

But the 49ers' ability to add one of those three will depend on what happens ahead of them. The New York Jets (No. 11 pick) reportedly love Ruggs and the Raiders, who sit at No. 12, also have a massive need at receiver. Raiders general manager Mike Mayock reportedly loves Lamb and believes he's the top receiver in the class.

The Denver Broncos currently sit at No. 15, but there have rumors they are looking to move up to snag Jeudy. The Philadelphia Eagles, who own the No. 21 pick, also reportedly are in the market to jump up to take one of the top three pass-catchers

In Dalton Johnson and my latest mock draft, we have the 49ers selecting South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw with Lamb, Ruggs and Jeudy already off the board.

In Matt Maiocco's 49ers mock, he has coach Kyle Shanahan adding Ruggs' blazing speed to an already dynamic offense.

The 49ers will have a plethora of options come Thursday.

But the GOAT wants them to take a shot and inject more life into the downfield passing game.
