The 49ers' quarterback room could have a new face after this month's NFL draft.
San Francisco QB coach Shane Day reportedly conducted a workout with former Wagner signal-caller T.J. Linta on Wednesday, according to Tony Pauline of draftanalyst.com.

In 13 games as a graduate transfer for the FCS school last season, Linta completed 51.2 percent of his passes for 1,481 yards and 13 touchdowns. He threw just four interceptions on 217 pass attempts. As a two-year starter at Brown prior to that, Linta completed 51.4 percent of his passes for 2,131 yards, 13 TDs and 15 interceptions.
''Let's look at the plays on film, he plays like a real quarterback,'' agent Joe Linta told the Associated Press last month. ''He has the arm strength and the brain and the physicality, doesn't flinch in the wake of getting blasted in the pocket.''
Before you ask: Yes, these Lintas are related. T.J.'s agent is his father.
If the 49ers drafted (or signed) Linta, he wouldn't be the first quarterback under head coach Kyle Shanahan -- himself the son of a longtime NFL coach -- to have familial ties to the sport. C.J. Beathard's grandfather, Bobby, was a longtime NFL executive who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last summer.

Of course, it's an open question whether they'd actually spend time on the roster together. As Niners Nation's Patrick Holloway noted Saturday, the 49ers have carried just two QBs on their active roster and one on the practice squad in each of Shanahan's first two seasons. Beathard and Nick Mullens will battle for the team's backup job this offseason, and neither seems particularly likely to clear waivers, given their experience.
That could leave the 49ers needing a developmental quarterback on the practice squad, a la Mullens. If Linta's workout is any indication, the team is preparing for that possibility.
