NFL rumors: Rams' Sean McVay approached for 'Monday Night Football' job

Sean McVay was the hottest name in the NFL just one year ago. The Los Angeles Rams locked up their head coach to a five-year contract extension in July 2019 after reaching the Super Bowl.

But after a down season last year, could McVay already have his eyes on a different career path? The New York Post's Andrew Marchand reported ESPN approached McVay about taking an analyst job for "Monday Night Football".

McVay didn't take the job and will remain the Rams' head coach, for now. His situation in the NFC West isn't exactly what it was going into last season, though.

After going 24-8 his first two seasons as a head coach and winning the division twice, McVay's Rams went just 9-7 in 2019. They failed to make the playoffs and finished third in the NFC West. In the meantime, the 49ers went from 4-12 to Super Bowl runners-up.

The NFC West is loaded going into the 2020 season. San Francisco still is seen as the favorites, while the Seattle Seahawks are right behind and the Arizona Cardinals added to their explosive offense by acquiring star receiver DeAndre Hopkins. There's a lot in the Rams' way right now.

McVay has spoken on his worries of "burning out" as a head coach in the past. He's sure to have a future beyond football one day, and that could come sooner than expected.
