After 32 seasons as a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in the NFL, it appears former 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is finally getting his first shot to be a head coach.
According to multiple national reports, the Denver Broncos will hire Fangio as their next head coach.

Fangio will replace Vance Joseph, who was fired after two seasons in Denver.
The 60-year-old Fangio has spent the last four seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears. Prior to that, he served Jim Harbaugh's DC with the 49ers from 2011 through 2014. Fangio also spent the 2010 season as the defensive coordinator at Stanford.
Fangio's four-year run as the 49ers defensive coordinator correlated with San Francisco's resurgence this decade, as Fangio's defense buoyed them to three consecutive NFC championship games from 2011-2013. Under Fangio, the 49ers defense ranked No. 2 in 2011, No. 2 in 2012, No. 3 in 2013, and No. 10 in 2014, per Pro Football Reference.

This past season, the Bears ranked third in fewest yards allowed per game (299.7) and allowed the fewest points in the league (283).
The Raiders were originally scheduled to see Fangio just once in 2019, but now that he's slated to take over in Denver, they will have to face him twice.
