Don’t sleep on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Not that you would, but this is an extra reminder from former 49ers defensive coordinator-turned New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
He wanted to let you know that Mahomes' "old man jog" could be deceiving.
Mahomes himself appeared to appreciate Saleh's comments.

With the Chiefs heading to their second consecutive Super Bowl, Saleh was asked for any advice he might have toward their opponents, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After all, Saleh did plenty of homework on the Chiefs’ offense prior to the 49ers facing them in Super Bowl LIV last year in Miami.
“You have to be relentless,” Saleh said recently on ‘Pro Football Talk Live.’ “Just when you think you might have him, he might step two steps back and then throw off his back foot. I mean, he has ridiculous arm talent. He’s got tremendous accuracy. He’s got tremendous mobility. But any time you’re a pass rusher just understand that he might do his little old man jog in between plays where it looks like his feet hurt. Don’t kid yourself.”
The jog Saleh was referring to is so apparent, there’s a YouTube video dedicated to talking about it for eight straight minutes. You don’t have to watch the entire thing, but watch the first few seconds to get what Saleh is talking about.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers lost their Super Bowl matchup against the Chiefs, of course. Mahomes led Kansas City to three touchdowns just in the last six minutes of the fourth quarter, coming back from a double-digit deficit.
Being relentless might be an understatement.
Mahomes’ approach to his offense is simple, but the way he executes it is anything but. He wants to score on every drive, and when that doesn’t happen, he personally feels as if he’s failed.

The Chiefs’ offense is explosive and creative, averaging almost 30 points per game. And if the run game shows up to the Super Bowl as well … that’s bad news for the Bucs.
Just don’t let Mahomes' light jog fool you.
