Preseason Game 4: 49ers-Chargers
Jim Harbaugh's 49ers finished the 2013 preseason 3-1, defeating the Chiefs, Vikings and Chargers and falling to the Broncos.
Colin Kaepernick played just one series, going 3-for-4 for 64 yards and a touchdown. He did not attempt a rush.
Rookie Quinton Patton was the recipient of Colin Kaepernick's touchdown pass, taking it 43 yards to the house for his second touchdown in as many preseason games.
Andy Lee punted six times for a total of 266 yards (44.3 average). Two of the six were inside the 20, but he did not break out his storied "knuckle punt."
Anthony Dixon scored the 49ers' second touchdown on a 5-yard pass from Colt McCoy.
Colt McCoy threw a team-high 15 times, completing eight passes for 56 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown to Anthony Dixon. McCoy also rushed four times for 12 yards.
The Chargers' six points came on a pair of Nick Novak field goals, from 41 and 48 yards.
Cam Johnson, who has a reasonable chance to make the team, had a whale of a game with two sacks and a blocked punt that he recovered for a touchdown.
Lavelle Hawkins turned in the play of the preseason when he bobbled a pass from B.J. Daniels before hauling it in, bouncing off a few Chargers and breaking free down the left sideline behind an Anthony Dixon block for a 45-yard touchdown.
B.J. Daniels turned in another strong game. He led the team with 76 passing yards (5-for-9, 2 TDs) and 54 rushing yards (6 carries).
