Randy Moss' Hall of Fame career ended in a 49ers jersey. Moss made it back to the Super Bowl after one year away from football, the final score however, was not what the legendary wide receiver hoped for.
The 49ers lost Super Bowl XLVII, 34-31, in gut-wrenching fashion. During Moss' Hall of Fame induction speech on Saturday, the speedster sent a message to 49ers fans.
"To the 49er fans and organization, I want to thank you for giving me my last run at one [title]," Moss said. "Ray [Lewis] took it. Ray took it. But I want to thank you for the opportunity, York family."
Moss caught two passes for 41 yards in the loss. In his final season of his career and only in San Francisco, Moss hauled in 28 receptions for 434 yards and three touchdowns.
After nearly pulling off the upset at Lambeau Field on Monday night, there's no rest for the 49ers (1-5) on Sunday. They'll welcome the NFL's last undefeated team, the Los Angeles Rams (6-0), to Levi's Stadium.
Los Angeles boasts the league's best offense, powered by star running back Todd Gurley II. Gurley leads the NFL in rushing (623 yards) and rushing touchdowns (nine), and should give the 49ers' top-10 rushing defense plenty of problems.
Here's how writers around the country see the game playing out:
Nick Wagoner, ESPN.com: Rams 34, 49ers 24
Lindsay Thiry, ESPN.com: Rams 34, 49ers 21
Elliot Harrison, NFL.com: Rams 46, 49ers 36
Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: Rams 30, 49ers 24
Vincent Bonsignore, The Athletic: Rams 34, 49ers 13
Sam Farmer, Los Angeles Times: Rams 31, 49ers 27
The 49ers were supposed to be in primetime on Sunday night at Levi's Stadium against the Rams. That's no longer the case.
With a 1-5 record, the 49ers were flexed to a mid-day game against the undefeated Rams. Still, Sunday will be an emotional day with the unveiling of statues for "The Catch."
Can C.J. Beathard keep pace with Bay Area native Jared Goff? Will the 49ers' three running backs combine for as many yards as Rams running back Todd Gurley? We're about to find out.
