The Browns’ front office wanted to deal Gordon, according to the report, while then-coach Rob Chudzinski was against the idea. Gordon caught 87 passes for a league-leading 1,646 yards in 14 games.
A year ago, sources told CSNBayArea.com that the 49ers would have been willing to trade for Gordon only if the Browns would assume risk for any off-field issues that would keep Gordon from playing.
Gordon is serving a one-year suspension for latest violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
According to the report, the 49ers offered a second-round pick, in addition to other players.

The trade talks came at a time when 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith checked himself into treatment for substance abuse and missed five games. The 49ers did not have a wide receiver to complement Anquan Boldin during the first 11 games while Michael Crabtree rehabbed from a torn Achilles.
